AMC Charges into SDCC 2016 with Panels for ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘Preacher’, ‘Fear the Walking Dead’, More

maxresdefaultAs we announced a few weeks agoThe Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead are charging back into Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con this year – but AMC is also bringing along Preacher and Geeking Out.

The Walking Dead panel is set for Friday, July 22 from 1PM-2PM in Hall H, and will include panelists Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Chandler Riggs, Michael Cudlitz, Sonequa Martin-Green, Christian Serratos, Ross Marquand and Josh McDermitt along with Executive Producer and Showrunner Scott M. Gimple, Executive Producer Robert Kirkman, Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd, Executive Producer, Director and Special Effects Make-up Supervisor Greg Nicotero and Executive Producer David Alpert.  The panel will be moderated by “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick.

But first, attendees will be treated to Fear the Walking Dead, also in Hall H from 12PM-1PM. Best of all? The panel includes a live stage reading of the penultimate episode. Um, awesome.

Attendees can also find Kevin Smith in a panel for Geeking Out on Saturday at 7PM in Hall H – which gives plenty of room for Marvel Studios to be in its usual 5:30PM-6:30PM position just before, as Smith typically closes out the night.

There will also be autograph signing sessions for both Walking Dead series, though sadly, not for Preacher.

AMC will host fan activations throughout the weekend, including a The Walking Dead-themed booth (#4237) in the Convention Center, where fans can stop by to take photos of themselves among Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) infamous “lineup” from the season six finale, as well as a Fear the Walking Dead yacht, at the Fifth Avenue Pier behind the Convention Center, where fans can experience life aboard the Abigail.

Here’s the full schedule:

  • Panel from 12:00-1:00pm PT on Friday, July 22 in Hall H
  • Autograph session aboard the “Fear The Walking Dead” yacht from 12:00-1:00pm PT on Saturday, July 23, Fifth Avenue Pier (Behind Convention Center)

GeekShot Exclusive Photo Series Vol. 3 (Week 18)

GeekShot Exclusive Photo Series Vol. 3 (Week 18) - Groot Funko Pop Statue Booth WonderCon 2016

Welcome to the GeekShot Photo Exclusive Series. This will be a weekly post featuring cool, interesting, or just plain awesome moments we have captured during San Diego Comic-Con and WonderCon. Each week we’ll post a photo by Beth or James of GeekShot Photography. We may include a short story about the photo, but sometimes we’ll just let the photo speak for itself.

About This Photo

Groot statue at the Funko booth at WonderCon 2016.

SDCC 2016 is a mere 20 days away. The news and information about what’s coming at the show this year is flowing fast now. All you have to do is look at this site and see that. It will be easy to get stressed out and overwhelmed trying to figure out what you want to do, what you want to see or buy, and feeling like you’re missing something.

Relax. This is supposed to be about fun. Seeing your favorite show or movie cast and creators. Getting sketches. Meeting friends. Buying cool stuff. It’s about gathering in a place where there are 130,000 other people who are the same as you at heart.

So let me give you the piece of advice that I sometimes forget to use. If you’re not having fun, take the time to figure out why. I’m not talking about waiting in line for however many hours it takes to do the thing you want to do. I’m talking about experiencing/buying/seeing that thing once you get to it. If you wait 18 hours to get into Hall H for the WB panel and then don’t have fun watching it, you need to take a time out and ask yourself why.

I’ve been to enough cons, and SDCC in particular over 20 times, to know that I can’t keep doing the same thing year after year. I’ve been in Hall H at least once for the last 6 years. That’s more than enough for me for now (unless I can just walk in). Will I miss some amazing panels? Sure. But I can watch them later. The actual experience is not worth the wait and stress to me after doing it multiple times now.

This year I plan to do things that let me move from event to panel to floor to whatever. I’m not devoting hours of my day to waiting in lines. I’m buying or trying for tickets to some events so I’m guaranteed entry. This means I’m going to miss a lot of big events. But it also means I’ll be able to catch a lot of small or specific things I’m going to enjoy. Having the time to visit and see more things offsite, even if I don’t participate in whatever they have going on, will be a welcome change. Last year I made it on the other side of Harbor twice, on both Wednesday and Sunday. I missed all of the con except a couple hours on Thursday while waiting in line. When I thought about these things I knew I wanted to make a change for this year.

Obviously you need to make a plan for this year in order to get the most out of the con. Just take a moment if you went previously and think about how you felt during and after. Evaluate your experiences and make decisions to keep at it or change it up. If this is your first year you need to make these decisions based on what you think you’ll want to do. There a lot of guides and help on this site for that.

Just make sure you are having fun. If you’re not, make a change.

We are Groot.

Fantastic Beasts Set to Mystify at San Diego Comic-Con 2016

fantastic-beasts-and-where-to-find-them-eddie-redmayneThe good news just keeps coming today.

David Yates, director of the upcoming Harry Potter world film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, just revealed that they’ll be bringing the film to San Diego Comic-Con next month.

In a recent interview with tribute.ca, Yates said, “It’s very exciting and I’m editing it at the moment and it’s coming together really well. We’re going to take a few clips to Comic-Con very shortly and we’re working on the second one as well.”

So attendees can look forward to footage – and likely cast members as well. The upcoming film releases on November 18, 2016, and stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, and Ron Perlman – so expect good things. Or maybe they’ll pull a Deathly Hallows, when Tom Felton showed up in 2010 to preview some footage and then disappeared again – but we think it will get more fanfare than that.

The WB Hall H presentation this year is already looking packed, with confirmed appearances for Suicide Squad, Kong: Skull Island, and The LEGO Movie.

You can read the full interview on tribute.ca

The Batarang has long been one of the coolest comic-book gadgets, and you can add it to your cosplay or role-play arsenal. As part of Factory’s SWAT line (Soft Weapons and Tactics), the Batarang is soft, safe for work and play, and features the sound of the Batarang’s “swooshes” when activated.

It’s limited to 500 pieces and retails for $15, and is available now for pre-order either to pick up in Factory Entertainment Booth #2647 or to have it shipped after the con.
