Starz Returns to San Diego Comic-Con with ‘American Gods’, ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’

Although Outlander is sitting out of San Diego Comic-Con this year due to production, that doesn’t mean Starz is sitting out – and they’re going to be putting most of their promotional efforts this year behind the upcoming American Gods from showrunner Bryan Fuller, based on the work by Neil Gaiman.

The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity
and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.

Attendees will find Fuller, Gaiman, McShane, Whittle, and Yetide Badaki, Pablo Shreiber, Bruce Langley, and Michael Green on Friday, July 22 from 3:15PM-4:15PM in Room 6BCF. They’ll also be signing autographs that same day from 4:45PM-6PM at the Starz Booth #4029.

Ash vs Evil Dead also returns to the convention, with a panel on Saturday, July 23 from 6:45PM-7:45PM in Room 6A with cast members Bruce Campbell, Lucy Lawless, Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo, Lee Majors, Ted Raimi, Michelle Hurd. They’ll also be signing autographs the same day from 2-3PM at the Ash vs Evil Dead Cabin in the Petco Park Interactive Zone.

To top off the day there will be a screening at 10PM in Room 6DE.

Super7 San Diego Comic-Con 2016 Exclusives [UPDATE June 30]

Toymakers Super7 is returning to San Diego Comic-Con and they’re bringing a slew of exclusives with them. You can find Super7 on the exhibit floor at Booth #4945.

Super7 is focusing on three different properties this year: Masters of the Universe, Aliens, and The Worst. We’ll be updating this master post with their exclusives as they get revealed, but for now, here’s a look at what they’ll be bringing to the convention:

M.O.T.U.S.C.L.E. Multi-Color Trash Can Assortment ($20): This new Trash Can features Skeletor’s face on the molded lid will bring vintage M.U.S.CL.E. fans right back to the post. Each trash can pack will contain all of Wave 1 in multiple colors, including He-Man, Skeletor, Mer Man, Buzz Off, Man-E-Faces, Ram Man, Teela, Tri-Klops, Trap Jaw, Man At Arms, and Beast Man.

Costume Designers Guild Announces San Diego Comic-Con 2016 Panels

Our friend Joe Kucharski, the Editor of Tyranny of Style (which you should check out), has all of the details on the return of The Costume Designers Guild at San Diego Comic-Con this.

Attendees will be able to get a behind the scenes look at costume design from the experts, including designers for Star Trek: Beyond, Outlander, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Agent Carter, Sueprgirl, The Strain, and many more.

You can also catch our friend Joe Kucharski moderating the Saturday panel. There’s no word yet on times or rooms.

Also returning this year is the fan-favorite Hall Costume Awards, where guild members will hand out prizes for their favorite costumes that they see in the halls of the exhibit floor. Want to win? Maybe hang around their panels on Friday or Saturday.

Ice Age to Space Age Costumes: Designing for Film 

The Costume Designers Guild Local 892 members discuss designing costumes for films from Solutrean to Star Trek: Beyond our panelists worked with the directors to create the world of the films. Panelists include Ruth E. Carter (Chi-Raq), Sanja Hays (Star Trek: Beyond), and Shawna Trpcic (The Cabin in the Woods). The panelists are happy to answer audience questions about the process of filming today and how they work with the Directors to create the looks. Christopher Lawrence (The Space Between Us) joins us to moderate this panel.

Dressing the Characters: The designers behind the costumes

The Costume Designers Guild Local 892 is thrilled to bring the designers of some of our favorite television characters to Comic Con. Terry Dresbach (Outlander), Ann Foley (Agents of Shield), Giovanna Melton (Agent Carter), Kiersten Ronning (Supergirl) and Luis Sequeira (Strain) will discuss the process of designing costumes for television characters no matter what world the characters live in. The panel will be moderated by Joe Kucharski Editor of TyrannyOfStyle.com.

Slasher Comedy ‘The Final Girls’ Will Make Scream… and Give You Ice Cream at SDCC 2016

The Final Girls, the slasher comedy film released last year which stars Taissa Farmiga and Malin Akerman, is headed to San Diego Comic-Con with a panel, offsite midnight screening, and even an ice cream truck.

The previously announced screening will take place at midnight on the evening of Saturday, July 23, at the Ken Cinema in San Diego. For those who want a more in-depth look at the behind-the-scenes making of the film, head to the Grand Horton earlier that day on Saturday the 23 for a 4PM panel with Director Todd Todd Strauss-Schulson, Writers Joshua John Miller, M.A. Fortin, and cast members Thomas Middleditch, Angela Trimbur – as well as “actual final girls from horror history”.

Best of all, they’ll have an “I Scream” truck at the Grand Horton. Fans who post #finalgirls photos on Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat will get free signed posters & ice cream (The Final Swirls) handed out by surprise guests.
