Comickaze Liberty Station Offers Artists a Second Chance

When San Diego Comic-Con International started back in 1970, its main focus was on comic books and the artists responsible for them. It stayed true to that focus for decades, honoring such great artists and writers as Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Ray Bradbury. Recently, however, CCI has come under criticism for seemingly catering more to Hollywood than to comic books. Every year, it appears that Artists Alley seems to shrink further and further, offering less space for great up-and-coming artists to showcase and sell their work as well as interact with fans. Even if it’s not actually shrinking, it’s becoming harder every year for new artists to get noticed with all the other media booths taking up so much attention on the exhibit floor.

Comickaze Liberty Station would like to change that. The owner, Robert Scott, is committed to giving budding artists a chance to showcase their work, sell, meet fans, take commissions, and network. He is extending this opportunity to any artists who were unable to score a space in Artists Alley this year for SDCC.

According to Scott:

Comickaze Liberty Station is located in San Diego’s only dedicated Arts District with studio space for dozens of working artists. We’re less than 4 miles from the convention center, next to the airport. Arts District Liberty Station is also home to multiple galleries (including IDW’s San Diego Comic Art Gallery) and museums.

We’re also just steps away from Stone Brewing, Slater’s 50/50 and many other awesome dining experiences.

Comickaze has enough space in its location to cover at least eight artists with six-foot tables. Outside on their uncovered patio, they can accommodate at least eight more artists, also with six-foot tables. They’re asking for a nominal fee to cover tables, chairs, and an EZ-Up for the uncovered patio (upon request).

Any interested artists should contact Mr. Scott immediately to make arrangements and reserve a space.

You can find Comickaze Liberty Station at:

2750 Historic Decatur Rd #101
San Diego, CA 92106

They’re open 365 days a year (366 on leap years) from 11AM to 7PM PT.
